Manchester United have been warned that Liverpool and Chelsea plan to scupper their move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, according to reports. The winger has been strongly linked with a return to England and the Red Devils lead the queue for his signature.

Sancho joined Dortmund after rejecting professional terms at Manchester City in 2017.

Injuries affected the 21-year-old last season but that has not prevented Europe’s top clubs from trying to sign him.

The South Londoner made 26 appearances in the German Bundesliga and scored eight times. He also provided 13 assists.

A six-match winning run under interim head coach Edin Terzic helped Dortmund finish third after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Lucien Favre had been sacked in December following a poor run of results that included a 5-1 thumping by newly promoted Stuttgart.

Dortmund eventually finished 14 points behind champions Bayern Munich.

And Man Utd have made Sancho a priority this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to enhance his attacking options.

The Red Devils have lacked depth on the right of their attack.

Mason Greenwood has often played there but is more natural through the middle.

Daniel James has been unconvincing when used on the right, while Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are better on the left.

United tied down striker Edinson Cavani for another year and plan to have Sancho supplying service for the Uruguayan.

Sancho has set up 65 goals in 137 matches for Dortmund since making his debut in 2017.

The England forward has also scored 50 times himself for the Westfalenstadion side.

His numbers will have impressed Solskjaer, who is planning a Premier League title bid after finishing runners-up to Manchester City last term.

But United will have to fend off interest from Liverpool and Chelsea to secure Sancho.

SportBild reports that United’s top-flight rivals remain keen on signing the attacker, despite the Old Trafford outfit being firm favourites.

Dortmund have told Sancho that he can leave this summer, but only if a club offer at least £77million.

United are also reportedly interested in signing Sancho’s Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland, but a deal would likelier be struck next summer. A £65m release clause in Haaland’s contract becomes active in 2022.

Cavani’s impressive form this season may have also persuaded Solskjaer that he does not need a striker when the transfer window reopens on June 9.

The 34-year-old scored 16 times for United in all competitions after arriving on a free transfer following his release by Paris-Saint Germain.
