Manchester United are, for now, standing by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, Ralf Rangnick has been linked with a move to Old Trafford amid their poor form under the Norwegian. And, given his track record of improving young players, several stars at United could improve should the 63-year-old take over.

United are being linked with the usual suspects as results go from bad to worse under Solskjaer.

Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag seem to be the frontrunners when it comes to taking over, despite their commitments at Leicester, Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax respectively.

But Rangnick’s name has also started to do the rounds.

The 63-year-old is currently working as a director at Lokomotiv Moscow yet is supposedly ‘dreaming’ of getting a phone call from the Red Devils.

So Express Sport will now take a look at four players who could benefit should Rangnick take over from Solskjaer, either on an interim basis or permanently.

Jadon Sancho

United spent big on Jadon Sancho during the summer transfer window, paying £73million to bring him in.

However, the England international is yet to impress since his blockbuster arrival.

With no goals or assists to his name, Solskjaer has struggled to coax the best from his best summer signing so far.

Given the way Rangnick improved attackers such as Emile Forsberg and Marcel Sabitzer, Sancho could benefit from his appointment.

It’s certainly too early to write off the 21-year-old, who should come good given his immense talent and potential.

Mason Greenwood

At the start of the season, Mason Greenwood was shining for United.

He scored three times in as many matches but, since the Hollywood homecoming of Cristiano Ronaldo, the goals have dried up.

Therefore, he’s another who could reap the rewards should Rangnick end up replacing Solskjaer in the Old Trafford dugout.

The German helped take Timo Werner’s game onto new levels, aiding his compatriot in his mission to be one of the best forwards in the game.

And Greenwood’s skills mean he could improve under a different manager, even if Solskjaer’s handling of the youngster has been good so far.

Donny van de Beek

Still aged 24, Donny van de Beek’s time at United is yet to work out.

The Netherlands international was signed as an alternative to Jack Grealish in 2020, with the England playmaker deemed too expensive.

But he’s made just four Premier League starts in the time since.

Rangnick’s team are known for being good on the ball and Van de Beek, given his ability in possession, could finally get some action.

The midfielder could also benefit should Paul Pogba leave, with the France international looking increasingly likely to be sold in the New Year.

Scott McTominay

Another midfielder who could kick on at United under a new manager is Scott McTominay.

The Scotland international hasn’t really improved since making his debut under Jose Mourinho, even if he’s decent in possession and out of it.

There is a sense, however, that McTominay’s development would be aided by the appointment of an experienced coach.

He still has much to learn when it comes to being a defensive-midfielder.

But whether he’s given a chance to evolve under Rangnick is a decision that ultimately rests with Joel Glazer.
