The report claims that the deal is close to completion, but Chong has made it clear that he was firmly against a short-term spell with Chinese Super League outfit Jiangsu Suning.
In response, Inter are believed to have drawn up a list of potential other options, including Verona and Sassuolo, to ensure Chong continues to develop through regular first-team action.
But Chong has also not yet decided whether to accept Inter’s proposal, leaving other interested parties hopeful of pulling off a late swoop for the Feyenoord youth product.
The Curacao-born starlet has been handed 10 senior appearances by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season, but appears firmly against committing his future to the Premier League giants.

Chong will join Antonio Conte’s title challengers at the end of the season on a five-year deal
Juventus were also linked with a move for Chong, but it is domestic rivals Inter who edged ahead to become favourites in the transfer tussle.
Gazzetta dello Sport state that the wideman has been offered a five-year contract worth £1.2million per season – which has the potential to gradually rise over the coming years and develop into a £2.1million deal in his fifth season in Italy.
Chong would become the fourth Manchester United player to join Antonio Conte’s title challengers, and could follow in the footsteps of former team-mates Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his immediate future, Chong was introduced as a second-half substitute in United’s Europa League victory over Club Brugge on Thursday evening.
The promising youngster even recorded an assist in the dying stages of the clash, picking out Fred on the edge of the penalty area for the midfielder’s second goal.
