Despite establishing himself as an integral part of Italy’s triumphant Euro 2020 side, much of Manuel Locatelli’s summer has been dominated by speculation over his club future.
Locatelli played a crucial role in helping Roberto Mancini’s Italy side secure their first European Championship since 1968, beating England on penalties in the final.
Locatelli did not step up to take a spot-kick during the recent win over England, but did during the Azzurri’s semi-final victory over Spain, only to see his effort saved by Unai Simon.
The midfielder explained “The world was collapsing around me and he [Giorgio Chiellini] kept repeating to rest assured, because we would have won.
“He told me the same [against England] and apparently he was right. I would have taken one. Anyway, luckily the others did it.”
Currently plying his trade for Serie A outfit Sassuolo, the midfielder has been touted with moves to a number of different clubs over the course of the summer.

The 23-year-old has been most notably linked with moves to fellow Italian side Juventus, or Premier League club Arsenal.
While interest from the Gunners has only emerged in the wake of his stellar Euro 2020 performances, Juventus were thought to be mounting a move for the star long before the tournament began.
A boyhood Juve fan, Locatelli has conceded interest from the Turin side “is pleasing”, but remained coy on any clear indication over where he will be next season.
Locatelli has claimed he has paid little attention to the rumours over his future while he has been folly focused on the task at hand while away on international duty, but recently commented on the topic for the first time to Sky Italia.

“Up until now, I haven’t really thought about it, I couldn’t.
“The interest from Juventus is pleasing, they are a great team and I have said it several times.”
Locatelli’s comments will make for unwelcome reading for Arsenal fans who were hoping to see him line-up at the Emirates next season.
Mentioning Juve by name with no reference to Arsenal gives a clear indication as to where Locatelli would choose to play his football next term.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta may have to look elsewhere to find replacements as his Emirates midfield exodus continues, with the departures of Martin Odegaard, Dani Ceballos and Matteo Guendouzi confirmed.
Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira are expected to follow suit, meaning Arteta has a number of roles to fill in the middle of the park.
