Arsenal ace Dani Ceballos had a key role in encouraging Martin Odegaard to join on loan from Real Madrid, the Norwegian wonderkid has admitted.
Odegaard joined on loan until the end of the season on Wednesday, taking the vacant number 11 shirt.
The Norwegian ace becomes the second player to join on loan from Real Madrid this season, with Ceballos already at the club.
The Spanish midfielder has been at the club since the summer of 2019 after falling out of favour at the Bernabeu.
He’s had mixed successes at the Emirates, having only provided three assists in the Premier League in 40 appearances. Though that doesn’t tell the whole story of his contribution to the team.
Now, however, he has assisted the club off the pitch, and played a key role in convincing Odegaard to join.
The Norwegian told the club website that he received a text from Ceballos to tell him about the club, the manager, and the team in general.
Odegaard said it was crucial for him to already know a player in the Gunners squad in order to help him settle.
"Yes, [Dani] text me the other day and he had only good things to say about the club, the manager and everything," the 22-year-old Norwegian said.
"That was also important for me and he was happy for me to come here, so that was a good thing for me, to know someone here and to hear from someone inside the club as well. It's good.
"It has been some hectic days but I've been talking to the club, to the manager and it seems like a great project and a great club.
"I'm just so excited and when I had the chance to come here, I felt like it was a really good chance to take.
“So I'm really happy to be here."
Odegaard could be in line to make his debut for the club against Manchester United, though the club confirmed the loan is subject to “the completion of legal and regulatory processes.”
