Martin Skrtel suffers awful abuse after Man Utd win over Liverpool allegiances

Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel suffered awful abuse on Instagram following victory over Manchester United.

The Slovakian was part of the Istanbul Basaksehir side that saw off the Red Devils 2-1 in the Champions League for a shock victory.

While fans of the Turkish side and the Anfield faithful praised the 35-year-old for his performance, one viewer launched a tired on Instagram.

Contacting Skrtel through the private messaging system, a user said: “[sic] F*** off u bold c***.

“Die u scouse murdering b****** f*** off ur f***ing s***.

“I’ll beat all ur family up u thick bold b****** can’t wait till we smash u, u s***house. F*** off.”

Instead of replying, Skrtel shared the private message on his Instagram story with: “What do you think about this person.”

The Slovakian spent nine seasons with Liverpool, making 320 appearances while winning the League Cup.

Leaving Anfield in 2016, he spent three seasons with Fenerbache before moving to Basaksehir last year to win the Turkish Super Lig.

The 35-year-old was reported as saying after the Champions League win on Wednesday: “It’s our first win in the Champions League ever, we wish we could play Manchester United every week.”

But the defender has now hit back at those comments, saying that he was not even approached after the win in Turkey.

Writing on his Instagram channel, Skrtel said: “Just to make it clear!

“This sentence which is going around social networks, it’s something I never said!

“Had not (done) interviews after the game and all kind of news like this are fake!

“I do respect every opponent and I’m experienced enough to know that something like this is not right and I would never do it!”

Skrtel will return to England when Basaksehir play the reverse fixture against United at Old Trafford on November 24.

The Turkish side’s win has heaped pressure on United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, making the worst start to a campaign in seven years for the club.
