Mesut Ozils agent takes swipe at ex-Arsenal team-mate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Mesut Ozil's agent has insisted his client could never play for an English club other than Arsenal – weeks after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Chelsea.

The former Germany international and Real Madrid midfielder joined Arsenal in 2013 for £42.5million and played a central role for five seasons under Arsene Wenger – falling out of favour under Unai Emery and leaving following Mikel Arteta's arrival.

Despite the way in which he left north London, agent Erkut Sogut insists that his respect for the club means he would never play for a rival like Aubameyang.

"He could never play for another English club, he's not like Aubameyang," Dr Sogut told Tribal Football.

"He loved his time at Arsenal and is still in contact with a lot of players, not least [Bukayo] Saka – they have a special relationship."

Aubameyang's move to Chelsea from Barcelona, which came before the sacking of his former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel, came after he was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy by Arteta and allowed to leave.

Ozil, 34, left Arsenal for Fenerbahce last year and scored nine goals across his 37 appearances before joining Istanbul Basaksehir in July.

He said on his Emirates departure: "I’d like to thank the club for this amazing journey over the past seven-and-a-half years.

"The support I have felt from the team and fans during my time here has been truly incredible and something I will always be grateful for. Together we won trophies for the first time in years and created memories that will last a lifetime."

With Aubameyang saying after joining their rivals: "I’m really happy. It’s an honour to be part of this team and I can’t wait to start.

"I have some unfinished business with the Premier League so it’s good to be back and really exciting."

So far this season, the 33-year-old has managed three goals across his 10 appearances for the club.
