Newcastle are reportedly ‘determined’ to follow up the marquee signing of Aaron Ramsey with another mega-money transfer deal this month.

The Magpies are attempting to overhaul Eddie Howe’s squad in the winter window in the hope that it will boost their chances of Premier League survival.

Having been bought by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund earlier this season, Newcastle are at risk of making an ignominious start to that regime by being relegated to the Championship.

They are currently second bottom of the top-flight having won just once in 19 games, with Howe’s squad in need of reinforcements if that form is to improve.

Kieran Trippier is set to arrive in a £12million deal from Atletico Madrid, but Newcastle also reportedly hope to make Ramsey their first marquee signing.

According to Sport Mediaset, the midfielder is no longer in Massimiliano Allegri’s plans at Juventus, having ‘not trained with the rest of the squad for some time’.

The Serie A giants are ready to let him leave for free in order despite him having 18 months left on his current contract.

Ramsey is set to ‘personally negotiate’ his exit, with Newcastle understood to be one of the clubs ready to offer him an escape route.

And Spanish news website Sport report that Newcastle are ‘determined’ to follow up the signing of Ramsey by bringing Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti to St James’ Park.

The Magpies are said to have ‘broken the negotiations’ for Lille star Sven Botman in an attempt to move for Umtiti.

The Frenchman has been placed on the La Liga club’s transfer list, but is stated to have so far insisted he will not leave for a club that is not playing in European competition.

Of course, Newcastle could use their Saudi billions to make a move to St James’ Park more enticing for Umtiti despite their relegation battle.

While Barca see the potential move favourably, it is likely the deal will have to be a loan at first as Umtiti wants to return to the Nou Camp in the summer.
