Furious Newcastle fans have taken to social media to demand refunds and an apology after their shock FA Cup defeat by Cambridge United.
Eddie Howe’s men were on the wrong end of a major cup upset on Saturday afternoon, crashing out in the third round of the competition at St James’ Park to the League One club.
Joe Ironside’s 56th-minute opener for the visitors eventually proved the only goal of the game, with Newcastle failing to turn home an equaliser much to the dismay of their supporters.

It was another blow for the Toon’s Saudi-backed billionaire owners, who are looking to add to Kieran Trippier’s arrival with further investment in this month’s transfer market.
But the club’s faithful quickly took to Twitter to express their anger with the result, while neutral fans also couldn’t resist poking fun at their humiliating defeat.
One Newcastle supporter wrote: ‘I think the fanbase deserve an apology from the players and manager after this display today. #nufc’.
Another fan went a step further and and said: ‘100% and should refund 51,000 tickets. Embarrassing,’ referring to the fans who attended St James’ Park for their defeat.
It was a miserable day for Howe’s side, who have been subjected to a grilling on social media

Another supporter branded their cup exit one of the darkest days in the club’s history
A third commented: ‘In a long line of dark days, it doesn’t get much worse than today, for NUFC. Half of these fellas couldn’t get a game in Major League Soccer (in America).’
While another put: ‘Absolutely no excuse today. Pathetic. #nufc’.
One user pointed out: ‘Commentators talking about players missing for Newcastle like they are playing Man City. It’s Cambridge they are playing, this is still an embarrassing result (and they look REALLY bad). If they stop playing (Jonjo) Shelvey and (Joe) Willock in the middle maybe they’ll stay up.
Another posted a photo of former Magpies owner Mike Ashley and joked: ‘Newcastle United. The gift that keeps on giving! #nufc #ashleyout’.
While one simply concluded: ‘Newcastle are quite simply terrible’.
Magpies boss Eddie Howe admitted he was ‘desperately disappointed’ with how the game panned out, and praised Cambridge for ‘defending for their lives’.
‘We are desperately disappointed. We really prepared well for this game and we played a very strong team,’ he said.
‘But ultimately we found a goalkeeper in superb form and a team that defended for their lives and we couldn’t break them down.
‘I don’t think there was anything wrong with our attitude we just couldn’t deliver the quality to score. The players are very disappointed.
‘They know the importance of the FA Cup and they wanted to win. When we did get it right the goalkeeper was in outstanding form and I have to credit Cambridge and their manager.’
