Newcastle United have had an offer accepted to sign highly-rated Reims striker Hugo Ekitike.
The 19-year-old has been the subject of interest from the Magpies and West Ham throughout the January transfer window.
Eddie Howe’s side have been busy this month and hope they can sign the French striker before the window shuts.
Newcastle are in talks with Reims to sign their highly rated teenage striker Hugo Ekitike
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side could be in for a busy final day of the transfer window
The club have now had an offer accepted and are in a race against time to get the deal across the line.
Ekitike, who has come through Reims’ youth academy has scored just two fewer league goals than Kylian Mbappe this season at eight.
The move would be a setback to West Ham who have also been in for Ekitike throughout the January transfer window.
West Ham have also been linked with the French teenager during the January window
David Moyes has been in the market for a striker to support Michail Antonio and said earlier this month that he hoped the club’s two-year search was almost over.
Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot told Le Quotidien du Sport earlier this month that Newcastle had made a proposal which didn’t suit them.
He said: ‘It is true that many [clubs] now realise the qualities of the player, but not us. He was trained with us and what he does does not surprise us,’ Caillot said.
‘Newcastle positioned themselves, we discussed it, [and] they made a proposal which does not suit us. As we don’t necessarily want to see him leave, we have set the bar quite high.
Ekitike has had a great season for Reims scoring eight goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances
‘They offered us €35m (£29.1m) in total but with many bonuses, some of which were almost impossible to achieve – like, for example, winning the Champions League.
‘We want €30m (£24.9m) fixed plus €10m (£8.3m) in realisable bonuses.’
The Magpies have already had a busy transfer window with the additions of Chris Wood, Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimares.
Newcastle are also closing in on a move for Brighton defender Dan Burn after agreeing a £13m fee while they also have a loan deal in place for Aston Villa’s Matt Targett.
