Newcastle United have reached agreement with Bruno Guimaraes and Lyon ahead of his £33million transfer.

The 24-year-old passed his medicals while on international duty in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on Saturday and has agreed a four year contract without a relegation clause.

The fee, which was agreed on Thursday night includes a further £6.7m in add ons. The clubs were formalising final details on Saturday evening ahead of making a formal announcement.

Eddie Howe’s side are set to sign Guimaraes on a four-year deal for £33m plus £6.7m in add-ons

Guimaraes will play for Brazil on Wednesday and so will not be able to meet up with his new teammates in the UK until Thursday.

He will be Newcastle’s third signing of the January transfer window following full-back Kieran Trippier and striker Chris Wood but is seen as the key signing to their new project.

Newcastle’s team returned from a training trip to Saudi Arabia on Saturday and face Everton in their next Premier League game on Tuesday February 8.

They are continuing to pursue a number of signings with their latest £10million bid for Brighton defender Dan Burn rejected on Saturday. They have also asked about Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.
