Newcastle United star Joelinton takes shot so bad it hits himself in the head

Newcastle United star Joelinton produced a shot so bad he hit himself in the head with the ball during his side's win over Everton.

Eddie Howe's side came from behind to beat the Toffees 3-1 at St. James' Park on Tuesday night and lift themselves out of the bottom three.

Joelinton himself has been criticised and mocked for his lack of goals since joining the Magpies for a club record fee from Hoffenheim back in 2019.

However, despite scoring just seven league goals for the club, his performances have increased dramatically in recent weeks with Howe deploying him in a deeper role.

With the sides level at 1-1 during first half stoppage time, Allan Saint-Maximin picked out an unmarked Joelinton inside the Everton penalty area.

Joelinton looked destined to put Newcastle in front as he ran onto the Frenchman's cut back, only to kick the turf at the crucial moment.

This led to him slicing his shot into the air, with the ball hitting his head as he fell to the floor, further adding to his embarrassment.

Although the ball then fell to Chris Wood, his shot was deflected and the Everton defenders were able to clear.

Fans could not help but see the funny side, though, and quickly took to social media to react to the Brazilian striker's mishap.

One supporter wrote: “To be fair lads, big Joe thought we were playing headers and volleys and just tried to cross and head it himself.”

Despite Joelinton's miss, Newcastle were able to claim all three points thanks to second half goals from Ryan Fraser and Kieran Trippier.

The result was the club's second straight win and means they are currently four games unbeaten in the Premier League ahead of Sunday's match with Aston Villa.

In addition, the win lifted Newcastle out of the relegation zone for the first time since the end of September.
