Former Manchester United star Owen Hargreaves believes Borussia Dortmund are 'bluffing' and Jadon Sancho will eventually make the move to Old Trafford.
Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc claimed on Monday that the "decision is final" and their prized asset will remain with the club this season.
The England international is a target for United but they are unwilling to pay the Bundesliga side's £105million valuation on a player they bought from Manchester City for £10m in 2017.
Dortmund set August 10 – the day they travelled to their pre-season training camp – as the deadline for a deal to be agreed but they are now ensconced in Bad Regaz in Switzerland with nothing in place.
That prompted Zorc to confidently announce Sancho would not be going anywhere.
But Hargreaves still reckons the move will go ahead, despite the Dortmund chief's comments on Monday.
Hargreaves told BT Sport: "Bluff. I'm calling bluff, I think he'll be a Man Utd player in a pretty short time.
"They are just trying to get some more money out of it. It's the nature of the beast.
"Obviously they know United are really interested and they are pretty heavy into negotiations. I think they are bluffing and they know he is going to leave at that price."
Indeed, United have not given up hope of signing Sancho despite Dortmund sporting director Zorc insisting the England international will still be with the German club for the 2020/21 season.
"We are planning around Jadon," he said. "He will be a BVB player next season.
"The decision is final. Last year, we adjusted Jadon's salary to match his performance development. While doing so, we also extended the length of the contract until 2023."
