Patrick Roberts finally ended his nightmare seven-year stay at Manchester City on Friday when he agreed a short-term deal with League One side Sunderland.
City paid a cool £8million initially to lure Roberts to the Etihad from Fulham back in 2015 after beating off a host of top-flight competition.
But he made just one Premier League appearance for City during his ill-fated stint at the club.
The former England youth international seemed to have the world at his feet when he first arrived in Manchester – but his career has quickly nosedived as Roberts now faces up to life in the third tier of English football.
It could, and should, have been a different story for Roberts.
The teenager was one of the most coveted players in England before he was prised away from Fulham and was even tracked by his boyhood club, Liverpool.
But Roberts decided to snub a move to his beloved Anfield to join City, who were hoovering up some of the country's top young talents at the time.
Since then, Roberts has become one of the youngest journeymen in English football.

The winger has had an incredible eight loan spells during his time as a City player – meaning he's averaged a loan spell for every year of his uninspiring City stay.
Roberts' initial loan spell at Celtic had looked promising.
The winger evolved into a real fans' favourite in Glasgow and notched 18 goals in 78 appearances for the Bhoys over three separate spells.
But unfortunately, things began to unwind for Roberts after he moved on from Celtic.
He had a nightmare spell in La Liga with Girona before he flopped in the Premier League with newly-promoted Norwich.
After failing to score in either of those two loan spells, Roberts finally ended his duck during a temporary stay with Championship outfit Middlesbrough. But despite spending 18 months on loan at Boro, he failed to make any sort of impression.
Roberts endured similarly underwhelming spells at Derby and Troyes in recent years before finally sealing a permanent move away this week when Sunderland came calling.

Amazingly, City have struck a deal with Sunderland that could see them recoup almost half of their initial outlay for the winger.
The Black Cats could end up paying as much as £3m for Roberts if certain add-on clauses are met.
Given that Roberts has barely kicked a ball in anger for City, that would be quite a remarkable outcome for the reigning Premier League champions.
