Brazilian football legend Pele is the subject of a Netflix documentary which is set to be released on Tuesday and the 80-year-old has opened up about his life both on and off the pitch.
Pele is said to have had a number of affairs and he admits that he ended up fathering children he did not even know about.
The three-time World Cup winner has been married three times, divorced twice and has seven known children.
Two of those children came from extramarital affairs, with his daughter Sandra born after an affair with maid Anizia Machado and his daughter Flavia Kurtz born after an affair with journalist Lenita Kurtz.
In the documentary, Pele says: "In all honesty I’ve had a few affairs, some of which resulted in children, but I’ve only learned about them later."
He claims that he told his wives and girlfriends about the affairs, adding: "My first wife, first girlfriend, knew about it. I never lied."
Pele's son Edinho is currently in charge of Santos' under-23s side, having been sentenced to 33-years in prison for money laundering and drug trafficking.
Edinho was first arrested in 2005 but remained a free man while he appealed, before being sentenced in 2014.
A court reduced his initial 33-year sentence to 12 years and 10 months and he has been serving his sentence under an open regime since September 2019, which allowed him to join Santos as a technical and development coordinator before taking the Under-23s role.
Pele has stood by his son and said in 2006: "God willing, justice will be done. There is not a shred of evidence against my son."
