Manchester City sailed through to the Champions League quarter final as Erling Haaland scored five goals in their 7-0 win over RB Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Napoli, meanwhile, have been one of the standout teams in Europe this season and are expected to secure their place in Friday’s Champions League quarter-final draw as they hold a 2-0 advantage over Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of their second leg on Wednesday night.
When asked about the resurgence of Italian teams in Europe this season, Guardiola told Sky Sports Italy: ‘Napoli are perhaps the best team in Europe this year.
‘In terms of playing style they’re very close to Arsenal. Inter and AC Milan are back. I am very pleased.
‘And then here we have [Roberto] De Zerbi who is changing many things in English football [at Brighton], playing wonderful football.’
Meanwhile, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes City will want to avoid both Napoli and Bayern Munich in Friday’s Champions League quarter-final draw.
‘They [City] will be thinking, ‘stay away from Bayern, stay away from Napoli. Everybody else is game’,’ the former defender told BT Sport.
‘They are that good a team. They have experience at this level now and they’ve got the players that can hurt any team on the planet.’
