The reasoning behind Pep Guardiola’s decision to not bring Jadon Sancho back to Manchester City has been revealed. Sancho is edging closer to a summer move to Manchester United as the 21-year-old looks to return to the Premier League.

Sancho previously spent two years in City’s academy, but forced a departure to Borussia Dortmund after struggling to find first-team action.

The winger was signed from Watford, with the fee that brought Sancho to Manchester rising to £500,000 with add-ons.

The 21-year-old impressed during his short stay in Manchester, making 35 appearances in all competitions for City’s youth teams.

He became a wonderkid thanks to his impressive performances, which saw him score 20 goals and notch eight assists in all competitions.

But over the course of Guardiola’s first season at City, Sancho grew concerned that he would not be promoted to the senior side.

After failing to be assured that he would be given regular playing time under Guardiola, the winger began to agitate for a move.

Sancho’s attempts to force through a move proved to be successful, as he joined Dortmund in August 2017 for £8million.

He has gone on to star for the Black and Yellow, scoring 37 goals and notching 47 assists in the Bundesliga over the past three seasons.

The winger has also helped Dortmund to win the DFB-Pokal this season, scoring two goals in the final.

Though he spent more than a month on the sidelines with a muscle injury, he also earned a spot in the England squad for Euro 2020.

And it appears that he has also earned a move back to the Premier League with United edging towards sealing a deal for the winger.

The Mirror report they have been told it will cost a club-record fee of £81.5m to bring him to Old Trafford.

But it is also stated that their fierce rivals City had no interest in competing with the Red Devils for his signature.

That is because the manner of Sancho’s departure to Dortmund continues to leave a sour taste in the mouth of Guardiola.

The 21-year-old refused to train for City while the saga of his exit dragged on, also turning down a £30,000 to join Dortmund.

And that failure to show up to training caused Guardiola to snub a deal for Sancho, despite it being claimed that he remains a “huge fan” of the winger.
