Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tests positive for Covid-19 on AFCON arrival

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival in Cameroon ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, according to reports.

Aubameyang, who hasn’t played for Arsenal since December 6 after being exiled from the first-team squad due to ‘disciplinary reasons’, met up with his Gabon teammate Mario Lemina in Dubai earlier this week before the pair travelled to Cameroon.

Former Southampton and Fulham midfielder Lemina, who now plays for French side Nice, has also since tested positive.

Gabon are due to face Comoros in their first game of the tournament on Monday, with both players now expected to be in isolation.

Meanwhile, Aubameyang faces an uncertain future at the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal reportedly listening to offers for their once club captain during the January transfer window.

However, the Gunners may struggle to find any suitors for the forward because of his reported £300,000-a-week wages.

Speaking after Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Norwich last month, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta gave an update on Aubameyang’s future at the club.

‘He wasn’t selected for today’s match,’ Arteta said.

‘We’ll take it game by game. That was the decision.’
