Premier League’s fattest fans named – and they don’t support one of the Big Six

Ale and pie-loving Geordies are the biggest supporters in the Premier League.

Newcastle United fans have gut-busting 38.5inch waistlines on average, a poll reveals.

They proved a big contrast to Brighton and Hove Albion fans, whose waspish 30in waistlines are the slimmest.

Leicester City fans are not far behind their Newcastle counterparts, with 38in waists. And Wolves supporters are next at 37.5in, the survey by betting site freebets.com reveals.

Spokesman Tim Agnew said: “We know that football fans come in all shapes and sizes and our research really backs that up. It is pretty clear who ate all the pies – it is Newcastle fans.”

Aston Villa and Leeds fans came joint fourth on 37in on average, just ahead of Liverpool supporters on 36.5in and West Ham United diehards, who were sixth on 36in.

Everton came seventh on 35.5in, ahead of eighth-placed Manchester United and Fulham on 35in. Arsenal, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest fans came joint ninth on 34.5in.

Meanwhile Southampton, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur supporters are joint tenth on 34in.

Brentford fans measured just 33.5in in 11th place, ahead of Crystal Palace fans on 32.5in in 12th place. Bournemouth fans came 13th with 32in waists.

The survey involved 2,000 male fans of English Premier League clubs being asked to reveal their waist measurements.

Tim added: “What really surprised us is just how slim the south coast supporters are. Indeed, supporters from Bournemouth, and especially Brighton, proved to be super slimline.”
