Quick Man Utd sale hope after green light with possible announcement ‘this week’

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reviews Bournemouth game

It could be a decisive week in the Manchester United takeover saga if the latest reports from Old Trafford are anything to go by. With the season’s conclusion rapidly approaching, the initial timeline to complete the process is at risk of being missed.

Express Sport provides all the latest United takeover news as Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe await communication from the Glazer family.

Announcement date hope

There could be a significant announcement to push the takeover process further as early as this week, according to reports.

The Independent claim that the hope among bidders is that they could receive clarity over the Glazers’ preferred party by Friday.

If not this week, bidders hope to hear back from the American family and the Raine Group before the end of the domestic season.

The FA Cup final between United and Manchester City on June 3 is the final domestic fixture of the campaign.

Ratcliffe and INEOS are said to be cautiously optimistic about their chances, though Sheikh Jassim’s fourth offer, lodged last week, has proven competitive.

‘Quick’ sale after green light

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs reports that while there have been delays in United’s sale, it is partly due to steps that would usually come later down the line already being completed.

And he claims that it could result in a takeover happening much quicker than expected once a preferred bidder is named, with both parties hoping to buy the club desperate to be in control for the summer transfer window.

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “So, one of the upsides of the way the process has been framed is even though it appears like we’re delayed over a preferred bidder or any clarity as to what the Glazers are thinking, there are elements of the process that have been completed, that would usually come further down the line in a traditional takeover in a period of exclusivity.

“So, a lot of the due diligence, a lot of the questioning, a lot of the logistics, has perhaps been done earlier, in a slightly transactionally backwards way.

“As a consequence, even though we still wait for the Glazers to give the green light to somebody should they do so, once that green light or if that green light comes, then both groups have a lot more in place at this stage of the process to try and complete a deal as quickly as possible.”

£61m deal held up

United are reportedly interested in a summer swoop for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

However, Sky Germany report that uncertainty over the club’s ownership is stalling both recruitment and talks to sign Marcel Sabitzer permanently.

It’s claimed that United are monitoring Diaby’s situation, with Leverkusen set to demand at least £61m to part ways this summer.

But no significant progress can be made while uncertainty over ownership looms over Old Trafford.
