Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has lifted the lid on how Bukayo Saka helped convince Mikel Arteta to sign him this summer.
Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in August in a move worth £30million, after impressing for the Blades under former boss Chris Wilder.
It appears the 23-year-old has already won the race to be Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper after displacing Bernd Leno, following the Gunners' shambolic 5-0 defeat against champions Manchester City in August.
Ramsdale made his Premier League debut in the 1-0 win over Norwich in September and has since been kept between the sticks for the league outings against Burnley, Tottenham and most recently, Brighton.
The goalkeeper’s impressive form has earned him a recall to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra on Saturday and Hungary on Tuesday.
While away on international duty with England, Ramsdale has explained how Arteta reached out to Saka when he was with the then Sheffield United goalkeeper at the Euros to discuss the potential signing.

“Agent Saka,” Ramsdale said in an interview for England’s official YouTube channel.
“That’s what he says. He said the manager [Arteta] spoke to him a couple of times and thankfully he gave a good review of me.
“What a guy. He’s just happy. He’s just always happy. What a footballer as well. I’m very happy now he’s on my team at club level.
"When you come here and you’ve got the talent which we’ve got up top, Bukayo’s right in the mix of that.
"You just can’t help but smile when he’s mentioned or when he’s in the room.”
Arsenal will play host to Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace in the Premier League on October 18 following the conclusion of the international break.
Arteta’s side then welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates four days later.
