Manchester City loanee Angelino has taken a swipe at Manchester United ahead of their clash with RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

United are back in Europe’s elite-level competition after a year’s absence, having spent last season plying their trade in the Europa League.

However, they have a fight on their hands to avoid an early exit from the tournament after being drawn in a Group of Death alongside Leipzig and Paris St-Germain, along with underdogs Istanbul Basaksehir.

Leipzig will provide a serious test for the Red Devils after their memorable run the semi-finals last term, which Angelino played a key role in.

The City star joined Julian Nagelsmann’s side on loan in January and will remain with them until the end of the 2020/21 campaign, meaning he will lock horns with neighbours United in the Champions League.

And ahead of their first battle on October 28, Angelino has suggested Leipzig will not fear the Red Devils because “sometimes they’re average”.

When asked to discuss the German club’s chances of progressing to the knockout stages, the 23-year old defender told RBLive: “I don’t know that much about Basaksehir. We know Paris from the semi-finals in the tournament in Lisbon.

“What I’ve seen from Manchester United so far: sometimes they’re world class, sometimes they’re average. We don’t have to hide.”

Angelino signed his first professional deal with City in 2014 and returned in 2019 after leaving to join PSV Eindhoven, making 12 appearances under Pep Guardiola before sealing a loan move to Leipzig.

The left-back has opened up on the similarities between Guardiola and Nagelsmann, saying: “Both are extremely concerned with football, know a lot, always think proactively and always have new ideas ready.
