Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is looking to repeat the strategy used to land Sergio Ramos back in 2005 with Paris Saint-Germain striker and long-term target Kylian Mbappe before the end of the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants have reportedly launched a last-gasp bid to land the forward, who will be out of contract at the end of the season.
Mbappe is understood to have been on Real Madrid’s radar for some time and came close to joining the club before his PSG move in 2017.
He has since emerged as one of the planet’s most feared attackers, with the Frenchman able to boast a glittering CV that most senior professionals can only dream of.
The 22-year-old looks set to become Perez’s latest Galactico at some point in the near future, even if a move to the Bernabeu cannot be engineered before Tuesday’s deadline.
Although Mbappe will be available to negotiate a free transfer from January due to his contract situation, Real Madrid are willing to pay a fee for his signature before the end of the month in order to nip ahead of the competition.
However, recent tensions have flared between Los Blancos and PSG, who have accused the 13-time European champions of acting illegally in their pursuit of the player.

Perez has ruffled plenty of feathers during his reign at Real Madrid and is no stranger to an incredibly late dip into the transfer market.
It appears to be a tactic employed to secure marquee signings and has achieved mostly successful results since Perez became the club’s president in 2000.
He previously signed Ronaldo Nazario from Inter Milan on the final day of the summer transfer window, with Ramos also joining the club on a last-minute basis 16 years ago.
Meanwhile, a long and drawn-out saga involving Gareth Bale was eventually resolved with just hours left to run in 2013, with the Welshman eventually sealing a then-world record move from Tottenham.
However, Perez failed to secure the services of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea two years later despite mounting a similarly late approach for the Spaniard.
The deal was all but done until a fax machine problem stopped the move from going ahead in a bizarre twist to the tale.
It remains to be seen whether Perez will be successful in landing Mbappe by using the same method.
The PSG marksman bagged a brace against Reims on Sunday to underline his value to the Ligue 1 heavyweights, in spite of Lionel Messi’s recent arrival on a free transfer.

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has insisted on a number of occasions that he will not be bullied into selling Mbappe this month.
He issued another declaration of intent on Thursday, telling beIN Sports that his stance remains unmoved despite the wishes of Real Madrid, who have already seen a bid in the region of £137million turned down.
We’ve always been very clear [on] the situation, the position of the club,” said Al-Khelaifi.
“We’re not going to repeat it every time. You know our position, it has not changed.”
