Rebekah Vardy's agent suggested leaking a story about Riyad Mahrez to the press after the Leicester team were "fuming" at the winger, a court heard.
Vardy is currently in court at the 'Wagatha Christie' trial, where she is suing Coleen Rooney for libel over allegedly 'untrue and unjustified' accusations about leaked false stories. On the second day of the trial, Vardy was asked about her husband's former teammate Mahrez.
The court heard a text conversation between Vardy and her agent: "Mahrez not turned up to training again, the lads are fuming,” Vardy said, and her agent responded: “Really? Why don’t you tell [Sky reporter] Rob Dorsett." However, Vardy "didn't want it coming back to her".
Dorsett subsequently tweeted: "I'm told Riyad Mahrez failed to report for #lcfc training this morning.
"He has now missed two training sessions and a game, so is technically in breach of contract and on strike. Sources say he is depressed after failing to get his move to #mcfc."
Rooney's lawyer also pointed to other articles, including one from The Sun, which referred to the team being 'fuming'. However, in court, Vardy said: "This had absolutely nothing to do with me whatsoever."
Vardy was asked: “Did you or did you not know that the 'lads were fuming'?” by the court.
But she said it was gossip and that she had "I had heard and overheard". Vardy also doubled down on “Jamie and I never discussed whether ‘the lads were fuming’."
Vardy said the information was already public, and she was just 'gossiping' with her agent. She denies leaking stories.
The trial continues.
