Rice snubs plea to sign Chelsea shirt after handing West Ham fan an England top

Declan Rice refused to sign a Chelsea shirt after being handed one by a fan while on international duty.

The West Ham star has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues and many are hoping that he makes the switch from east London soon.

The England international was on the books at Stamford Bridge as a youngster before being released at the age of 14.

West Ham picked him up and have been the benefactors ever since with the midfielder now one of their most important players while also being a top pick of Gareth Southgate's for the Three Lions.

Along with Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips, the duo have forged a close connection as England's best pivot.

And Rice has been strongly linked with an exit at West Ham after rejecting a new contract offer and being annoyed by their business over the summer.

The Hammers slapped a prohibitive £100m transfer price tag on the 22-year-old's head with Chelsea the favourites to snap him up.

Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested and Rice would have liked to have known what their offers were before contemplating staying in east London.

The Englishman has lofty ambitions for his career and wants to test himself at the highest level but his immediate future keeps him at the London Stadium.

There have been flirtations with Chelsea, the club where his best friend Mason Mount plays, but the Hammers believe he is happy where he is.

And after rejecting one Blues fan, that optimism will only grow when on international duty he was handed a Chelsea shirt.

As he signed shirts inside the stadium at the end of the 1-1 draw against Poland in Warsaw, one supporter tried to hand him a kit of the Blues.

But Rice walked away from the fan, who was saying over and over: "You know where to go."

West Ham fans have taken it as a sign that their star man has no intention of leaving, with one saying: "He ain’t going anywhere!"

Another wrote: "Knows we’re his loyalties lie!!!"

While a third tweeted: "Chelsea fans in the mud, the club that rejected him."
