Manchester United’s unbeaten run of form since the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continued on Thursday evening with a relatively simple 3-1 win over Burnley. Yet despite the increased confidence around the club, the Red Devils are still being criticised by some – with Rio Ferdinand blasting Gary Neville for his negative views of late.

Ralf Rangnick’s men have now gone eight games undefeated under his control and Michael Carrick’s temporary cameo following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.

Their eighth game came in the form of a routine 3-1 win over Burnley, with the Red Devils going three goals up within half an hour at Old Trafford.

They now sit just four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal with a game in hand, with their dreams of a Champions League spot slowly reforming.

Club confidence appears to be soaring again, especially under a manager who the players can seemingly trust to take them forward to future glories.

But according to Ferdinand on his Vibe with Five podcast, many are still too negative on current issues at the club – with the former England centre-back blasting his old team-mate Neville for his outlook on proceedings.

“Against Newcastle we were poor. You can’t get away from that fact,” Ferdinand said.

“But it is still two wins out of three, albeit against Newcastle who have been the whipping boys for a lot of teams.

“But a lot of the press that came out following that game, even one of my old mates Gary Neville, I thought we were in a relegation battle listening to the comments coming out of people and the way the mood around the club went to a negative place.

“Yes, we haven’t played a brand of football that excites people or fans would have become accustomed to, but it wasn’t like Ralf Rangnick was taking over a team in form.

“You fast forward to the game against Burnley, you can say Burnley played badly but you’ve still got to perform, you know in this league you can be beaten by anyone.

“Man Utd are a perfect example of that at home. But they made light work of them. Man United had to go out there and perform and get three points.”

Neville is one of Britain’s most respected pundits, frequently airing his views on contemporary issues such as the European Super League, VAR and his political beliefs.

His views on Solskjaer regularly went viral as United descended as far as eighth under the Norwegian.

Rangnick’s men take on Wolves on January 2 in a bid to close the gap on Arsenal.

But against a side who have only conceded 13 goals all season, they will find it hard to break down Bruno Lage’s men.
