Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez were both pictured at a family barbecue in Manchester shortly before the tragic death of their baby son.
The couple revealed the awful news on social media on Monday in a joint statement, describing the situation as "the greatest pain that any parents can feel".
Georgina, who had been pregnant with twins, had asked her sister Ivana – who was also pictured at the barbecue – to travel in from Spain to help her with her newborns. It's understood that Ivana's boyfriend Carlos Garcia, as well as Spanish sports journalist Edu Aguirre were also at the gathering that took place 24 hours prior to the tragedy.
Tributes have been pouring in for the family ever since the announcement was made yesterday evening, with Ronaldo's Manchester United team-mates leading the charge with kind messages of support on social media.
"Thoughts are with you and Georgina brother. I'm so sorry," Marcus Rashford tweeted.
Liverpool fans are also planning to set rivalries aside and stage a minute's applause for the forward during tonight's Premier League clash between the two sides at Anfield in a classy gesture of solidarity.

"I've just read that Liverpool fans are going to clap in support of Ronaldo on the 7th minute of the game tonight, please pass it on to anyone who is going. Tragedy has no colours," one Reds fan tweeted.
United announced on Tuesday that Ronaldo won't be taking part in the fixture, saying in a statement: "Family is more important than everything + Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time.
"As such, we confirm he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield and we underline the family's request for privacy."
Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro penned an emotional letter to her brother after the announcement, referring to the death of their father, who passed away due to liver failure when Cristiano was just 20-years-old in 2005.
"I love you and my heart is with you over there. May God take care of you and strengthen your path more and more," Katia said.
"Our angel is already on father’s lap. And our little girl is there firm and strong and full of health and is going to show us with every day that only love matters."
