Raheem Sterling has handed an ultimatum to Pep Guardiola as Manchester City look to extend his contract.
A transfer away could now be on the cards after falling down the pecking order, and Newcastle are potential suitors after their financial boost from their new owners.
Before embarking on contract negotiations, the England international reportedly wants to know whether or not he will be a key part of Guardiola's side.
The 26-year-old is entering the final two years of his deal, which would indicate that there is plenty of time to thrash out new terms.
But there is growing speculation over Sterling's situation, with other clubs taking a closer look at the forward.
According to The Sun, the former Liverpool star held a close talk with Guardiola over his plans, vowing to give his all in a more central role.
Sterling has started just four of City's 11 matches this season and has completed 90 minutes just once.
And on that occasion, he failed to impress in a 0-0 draw against Southampton as the Premier League champions failed to threaten.
A move to Newcastle has been mooted after their takeover, which saw them become the most expensive club in the world.
Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has purchased the club for £300million and there are several players already being linked.

According to Fichajes, Sterling is among them as the new owners eye a marquee signing.
Barcelona are also interested in the City star but their financial situation makes any sort of transfer difficult.
However, the winger has always wanted to play in Spain at some point in his career and there was talk of a move to Real Madrid two years ago.
Sterling is currently on international duty with England and is expected to start against Hungary on Tuesday night at Wembley.
