The case of Sergio Ramos is an increasingly intriguing one, with the star defender still yet to make his debut, or even appear in a matchday squad, for Paris Saint-Germain. Ramos moved to the Parc des Princes in the summer after his contract at Real Madrid was allowed to expire.

The Spaniard had developed a reputation for being one of the best defenders in the world during his time at the Bernabeu.

He helped Los Blancos to win five La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues, as well as winning two European Championships and the World Cup with his national team.

But his final year in Spain was hampered by injury, with Ramos making only 15 league appearances as a result of a succession of issues.

It was not totally surprising then when club president Florentino Perez allowed him to depart for free at the end of his contract.

His destination would be PSG, who went on a major recruitment drive to boost Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

But unlike the rest of the French club’s summer arrivals, Ramos is still yet to even feature on the bench for Pochettino’s men.

According to Marca, much of the reason for that can be put down to a soleus problem in his left leg, which has yet to heal despite him suffering it ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea.

The injury is said to still be restricting him at his new club, with PSG’s medical department having advised the defender to rest.

Pochettino had hoped to be able to select Ramos at the start of the season, but a number of setbacks have seen his return date delayed.

While the defender is thought to be desperate to make his long-awaited debut, PSG’s medics have made it clear he risks long-term injury if he rushes back.

Ramos has attempted to push back against this advice, though he has continually suffered problems when he attempts to progress with his leg in training.

So far, that is stopping him from getting to the level that Pochettino requires him to be at in order to select him alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

In more positive news, Ramos has been able to at least work on his core fitness in his recovery sessions.

But Pochettino has refused to put a definitive date in his calendar for the defender’s return from injury.

“He’s in a recovery period,” Pochettino said when asked why Ramos was yet to make his debut for the Ligue 1 table-toppers.

“Logically a player wants to play as soon as possible and what makes him [Ramos] happy is playing on the pitch.

“There is no specific date or time when he will be available again, but we’re optimistic he will be with us soon.”
