Thibaut Courtouis' sister has issued an apology to Italy star Leonardo Spinazzola after her reaction to his brutal injury during the Euro 2020 clash between the Azzurri and Belgium.
Spinazzola has arguably been Roberto Mancini's side's player of the tournament, featuring in all but one of their contests as they made their way to the final four teams.
As Italy look to secure their second ever European Championship, Spinazzola will be forced to watch on from the sidelines due to an incident that occurred late on during Friday night's contest with Belgium.
The full-back pulled up after making another one of his trademark rapid runs down the left flank and had to be stretchered off the pitch towards the end of the tie.
The AS Roma star could barely contain his emotion as he was taken off unable to hold back tears before he was subjected to further tests at Sant'Andrea Hospital in Rome.
The findings made for grim reading, as medics discovered he had suffered a subcutaneous rupture of the left Achilles tendon, an injury that will see him unable to play for club or country for a number of months.
Spinazzola was inundated with well-wishes from some big names within the footballing community, including from newly-appointed Roma boss Jose Mourinho as well as Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia, with the West London outfit one of many clubs linked with the wing-back this summer.
However, their sweet sentiments were not echoed by Valerie, the Belgium goalkeeper's sister, who voiced her opinion on the injury on social media.
While in control of her brother's Instagram account, Valerie filmed footage of the medical staff working on the stricken star alongside the caption "That’s what we call tricks of the trade".
Following the news that Spinazzola had suffered a serious injury, Courtois’ sister was quick to backtrack and publicly apologise.
This time on her own Instagram, Valerie wrote: "So sorry to find out Spinazzola’s Ec [European Championship] finishes like this.
"I apologize for my reaction in the moment and I absolutely hope he has a good recovery."
Spinazzola will now have surgery in Finland before starting his recovery period, as his nation prepare for a semi-final clash against Spain.
