You Me At Six frontman Josh Franceschi has revealed details of a rowdy night out with former Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky that took place during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Rosicky, who played 246 times for the Gunners between 2006 and 2016, had retired from professional football six months before the tournament kicked off in June 2018 and was at a festival in his home country where he met the band before a live performance.
Surprisingly, the former Czech Republic midfielder enjoys a strong friendship with Franceschi, who insisted that he stayed to mingle with his celebrity pals.
"I’ve become very good friends with Tomas Rosicky who was at Arsenal for a long time," Franceschi told the 101 Part Time Jobs podcast. "He came with us to a festival we did in the Czech Republic a few summers ago.
"It was during the World Cup and he was like, 'oh man I can’t wait to watch this from the side of the stage', and feel that energy, and later that night he told me he was a massive Slipknot fan.
"Corey Taylor was there with his other band Stone Sour. I know Corey through mutual friends over the years, so I just went and spoke to him and was like, look if you can come over and come take a picture with my friend Tomas I know it would be the best thing, and we hung out for a bit with him."
After You Me At Six had finished their performance Rosicky suggested getting a few drinks, an idea that had progressed into a fully-fledged night out by the early hours of the following morning.
With the group suitably intoxicated, they decided to send Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina a cheeky video message with his side's first knockout stage clash against England about to get underway.
Franceschi continued: "Tomas was the captain of the Czech Republic for a long time, so he called up loads of people and was like, 'We’re going to show the You Me At Six lads how we do it in the Czech Republic, now that I’m retired I can go out and have some drinks!'
"It got to the point where we were pretty hazy, two in the morning, WhatsApping loads of Arsenal players, and England were about to play Colombia so we sent David Ospina a video of all of us being like, 'Wheyyy, we’re gonna beat you'.
"I don’t think he was happy with it in the end, to be honest!"
You Me At Six will be releasing their new album SUCKAPUNCH next month.
