Brentford striker Ivan Toney hasn't always been in the good books with the fans, but he's tried to win them back with a dig at Leeds United on Twitter.
The Bees finally made it to the Premier League for the first time after they won the Championship play-off final last season, but the year before that Leeds won the division to end their 16-year absence from the top-flight. Brentford looked like joining them that season, but had to settle for the play-offs and lost to Fulham in the final.
Fast forward to 2022, Brentford are safe, but Leeds are currently facing relegation with just three games to go. And Toney shared an old video of the Leeds players jeering the Brentford manager, in a hilarious dig while their old Championship rivals who are now in a survival battle.
It's been an awful season for Leeds, and they are now favourites to be relegated along with Norwich and Watford who's fate has already been decided. But to rub salt into their wounds, Toney shared an old video from 2020, where some of the Leeds stars were singing "Mind the gap Thomas Frank" while lifting the Championship title.
The video has gone down extremely well with the Brentford fans, in what looks to be an attempt to get them back on side. Toney may have been an excellent striker for Brentford, but away from the field he has got himself into a spot of bother by being disrespectful to the club.
Toney was filmed while on holiday in Dubai saying "f*** Brentford", and after apologising he faced the wrath of the fans again just months later. The striker was asked where he plays and he responded: "Nowhere exciting."
Interest in Toney is high and the star could see himself earn a summer move elsewhere, but the striker has clearly tried to patch up a fractured relationship with the fans with his recent video. He's also helped with his league form, as the 26-year-old has netted 12 Premier League goals this season, with five assists to his name too.
Toney has been a brilliant signing and it was down to his 33 Championship goals that they made it to the Premier League, and he scored in the play-off final win over Swansea too. Toney actually found himself at Newcastle earlier in his career, and they're one of the clubs that have been linked with signing him this summer.
It's been a brilliant first season in the Premier League for Brentford, and they could still secure a top half finish. They are currently on 43 points, and sit 12th in the table. Toney could also get the last laugh, as Brentford face Leeds on the final day of the season.
