Head coach Antonio Conte leaves Tottenham by mutual consent
Tottenham Hotspur may have made a fatal error in their hopes of Harry Kane committing his future to the club. And Paul Merson has issued a rogue shout to try and convince the Lilywhites’ record goalscorer to stay in north London beyond the summer transfer window.
Spurs are ending the season surrounded by uncertainty in more ways than one, on and off the pitch.
Cristian Stellini will take interim charge of the final 10 Premier League games of the season as he attempts to maintain the club’s Champions League statement.
But beyond this term, who will replace him as Tottenham’s permanent head coach is up in the air.
That isn’t helping concerns about Kane potentially pushing for an exit this summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
And Merson has called on Tottenham to allow Kane to help select the club’s next boss if that will persuade him to extend his stay.

He told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday: “You’re going to Harry Kane and asking Harry Kane, surely?
“As soon as Harry Kane goes, that is it! Who wants to be the manager of Tottenham Hotspur if Harry Kane isn’t there?”
Antonio Conte suffering the latest sack at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium won’t have helped convince Kane that it’s the best place to spend possibly the final deal of his career.
Spurs could regret not attempting to replace Conte immediately, especially if they fail to improve under Stellini and miss out on the top four.

Julian Nagelsmann would be a statement appointment, while Mauricio Pochettino’s return would likely also be popular among fans.
However, by the time Tottenham decide on their next head coach, Kane’s mind about an exit, potentially to Manchester United, could be made up.
If Daniel Levy worked to appoint Nagelsmann or Pochettino with 10 games of the campaign left, it would’ve given the new arrival time to familiarise himself with the squad before starting next season strongly.
But the continued uncertainty will only damage Spurs’ chances of keeping hold of Kane.
