Tottenham defender Joe Rodon has completed a move to French side Rennes on a season-long loan.

The Welsh centre half, 24, only made three Premier League appearances last campaign for Antonio Conte’s side and is out of contention for a starting spot.

The Ligue 1 outfit have a £17million option to buy the 28-cap international.

The club tweeted: ‘Joe Rodon has joined Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais on loan for the 2022/23 season, with an option to make the move permanent. Good luck, Joe!’

One of his nine appearances in all competitions last season for Spurs was a game against Rennes in the European Conference League in September. 

Rodon is keen for regular first-team football ahead of this winter’s World Cup tournament in Qatar.

The arrival of centre back Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona had pushed him further down the pecking order at the club. 

Tottenham remain keen to offload Giovani Lo Celso, who is a target for Villarreal, Japhet Tanganga, who is discussing a loan to AC Milan, Tanguy Ndombele, Bryan Gil, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks. 

Young Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr will also be allowed out on loan.
