Victor Lindelof admits he has been "struggling through matches" for Man Utd

Victor Lindelof claims he has been "struggling through matches" for Man Utd with a back injury "for weeks".

The Swedish defender was blocked by United from joining up with the national squad for their clash with Denmark on Wednesday due to coronavirus concerns but he admits he is happy for the mini break.

Lindelof has already played 12 games in total this season – nine of which have been for his club.

He came in for criticism at the start of the season following his opening day horror show against Crystal Palace, but his recent performances have been a significant improvement.

The 26-year-old has had to miss the odd game due to his fitness problems, but has largely been playing through the pain.

“The back feels okay," he told Fotbollskanalen. "I’ve been having problems for a few weeks. I’ve struggled through the matches there’s been.

"It’s nice that I got a few days off now where there has only been treatment and I really tried to rest."

Sweden's friendly against Denmark descended into farce ahead of the fixture in Copenhagen.

Both sides were left depleted and fielded weakened lineups as top players shied away from the match due to fear of being held to quarantine restrictions.

Lindelof and a number of his international teammates are back in contention for their upcoming Nations League ties against Croatia and France.

United will no doubt be wary of Lindelof taking part in either fixture amidst the increasing prevalence of injury problems – the likes of which has seemingly ruled out Joe Gomez of rivals Liverpool for much of the season.

The United centre-back added: "It [my back] felt good in training today. Hopefully there should be no problems. If they want me to play, I will try to play and see how it feels. Then after that we will see how the back will be."
