Manchester United star Paul Pogba was spotted mimicking Bruno Fernandes’ goal celebration after the latter’s hat-trick against Leeds on Saturday. The Red Devils went into the match looking to get their Premier League campaign off to a positive start. And they did just that, blitzing Marcelo Bielsa’s side and claiming all three points.

Manchester United took the lead against Leeds through Fernandes, with Luke Ayling then levelling for the away side.

However, an unfettered Red Devils then upped the ante – and produced a sublime performance to claim victory in front of a packed Old Trafford.

Mason Greenwood put United 2-1 up, with Fernandes then scoring twice more and Fred getting in on the act.

It was a marvellous performance from the Red Devils, who banished memories of last season’s 3-1 opening day defeat to Crystal Palace.

The France international enjoyed himself against Bielsa’s team, clocking up four assists as his side ran riot.

And he was given a huge ovation upon being substituted for Nemanja Matic, with fans making their voices heard.

United now want to tie Pogba down to a new contract, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer particularly keen for the 2018 World Cup winner to stay.

But whether that happens, amid links to Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, is something only time will tell.

Solskjaer explained Pogba was happy after the win against Leeds, insisting he was deserving of the headlines for all the right reasons.

“Impressive, Paul’s always got that vision, he’s got that quality,” said the Norwegian.

“I know the headlines will probably be about Bruno but it’s a team effort, the space Mason [Greenwood] creates for Bruno to open up the channels, what everyone does ahead of the goals has been worked on this week.

“Paul, I’m very impressed with his fitness levels as well, he’s not been with us for too long and he looks fit, raring to go, enjoying his football.

“I love Paul bringing all his boys smiling when they’re playing football.”

Solskjaer also said: “This is Man United, this is the real Man United, this is how I sold Man United to Edinson (Cavani) for example, that you can’t leave after one season with no fans.

“It was electric, absolutely magic. It does mean a lot for the players. This atmosphere gives you the extra edge and energy.

“You can’t replicate that from a team-talk. When you run down that end and you score four goals like we did second half, it’s just the best feeling in the world.

“There’s always the next game, but this is a great start.

“This is, for me, the way I want to see my team play, not just because it is Leeds. I want to see them running going forward, taking risks, and we looked fit – some of these players have not played more than 45 minutes.”

Bielsa, meanwhile, admitted Leeds struggled to contain United.

“It was very difficult for us to recover the ball and it was very difficult for us to create any danger,” Bielsa explained.

“It was for a number of reasons, none of them the high press or the individual performance of a player.

“It was difficult for us to take the ball off them and difficult for us to create.

“The succession of goals after we equalised, we couldn’t react. In general lines, they were superior to us clearly.

“In the previous game [last season] there were moments with a big difference between the two teams, in this game those moments were less.”
