Ryan Reynolds has received a huge pay day after selling wireless firm Mint Mobile to telecoms giant T-Mobile.

The Wrexham co-owner sold the company for a monster $1.35billion (£1.12bn), leaving fans of the National League side over the moon as to what could be next for their team. Reynolds has been heavily involved with Wrexham since taking ownership of the club alongside Rob McElhenney back in 2021, and they are currently in a position that could see them earn promotion to the Football League next season.

It’s not clear how much of the total sum Reynolds will pocket, but it will certainly go a long way to helping Wrexham further down the line. But with Reynolds also looking to purchase National Hockey League side Ottawa Senators, it could be a huge boost for his potential bid.

Fans of Wrexham are already getting carried away, with some tweeting out hilarious statements involving high-profile transfers that could take place following the news. “Haaland to Wrexham,” has already been tweeted, along with other A-list football stars.

But for a team like Wrexham, getting to the Football League and then establishing themselves there is the primary aim for the entire club. Even amidst all of the off-field news, Wrexham sit top of the National League, with a game in hand over Notts County who are chasing them all the way.

Wrexham are just a point clear of second place, but are the favourites to climb out of the fifth-tier and return to the top four divisions. But even jumping into the fourth division requires a serious increase in revenue, something that Reynolds now has.

The Hollywood actor certainly isn’t struggling for cash, and the £2m sum that he and McElhenney bought the club for has paved the way for the club take off in a way that no one expected.

The ‘Welcome To Wrexham’ series on Disney Plus has been a huge success, although it has left Reynolds wanting more. Reynolds has teamed up with a Toronto real-estate group in a bid to purchase the Senators and break into the NHL.

They face competition from a whole host of rivals groups to buy the franchise, one that’s been valued at $900m. But NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is keen to see Reynolds enter the league, and is positive that his popularity can only boost league numbers.
