Wrexham's owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were left in total shock by the state of the club's gym after taking over the National League side.

The Hollywood actors bought the Dragons in November 2020, making a raft of changes that saw them reach the FA Trophy final and the play-offs last term. But the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic had left the then fan-owned team in need of improvements when they took charge.

The first two seasons of their ownership have formed the basis for a documentary called 'Welcome To Wrexham'. The series will be released at the end of August, with McElhenney posting the latest trailer for it on Twitter on Wednesday.

Part of the trailer shows Reynolds and McElhenney being given a tour of the facilities as they visited North Wales for the first time. At one point, they are taken into a room housing the team's team.

McElhenney asks "Is that the gym", with a look of shock on both his and Reynolds' face. The Deadpool actor answers by exclaiming "Holy s***" as the duo survey the limited equipment on offer.

Reynolds' partner in ownership replied by saying "Yeah this needs a little work", as he looks around smiling. The gym is shown to be in a darkened room with an exercise bike, two medicine balls, a trampoline and a weights bar.

Despite that start to life at the Racecourse Ground, Reynolds and McElhenney have clearly made a large amount of progress. The gym is likely to have been one of the first things that the duo invested in to improve their new team's fortunes.

They appointed Phil Parkinson last July, with the Englishman leading his side to second place in the National League. Having been knocked out by Grimsby Town in their semi-final, the Hollywood pair will be hoping for an improvement this season.
