Captivant wins the Champagne Stakes at Randwick on April 24

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Captivant was too good for them in the 2021 edition of the Champagne Stakes (1600m) as he chalked up a maiden Group 1 victory.

The win gave the training partnership back-to-back victories in the race, after King’s Legacy won in 2020, and a fifth overall.

Star hoop James McDonald was the winning rider, lifting his mount to victory ahead of the fast finishing Hilal.

Converge finished third while running well above his market price in fourth was the Queenslander I’ve Bean There.
