Star jockey James McDonald will be in the hot-seat for Godolphin after the Kiwi gun picked up major rides in the Doncaster Mile and ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
McDonald has been called up to pilot three-time Group 1 winner Avilius in the $3 million Doncaster Mile while he has snared the steer on $1 million Sires’ Produce Stakes favourite Anamoe.
Avilius will headline a three-strong Godolphin attack in the Doncaster with the breeding and racing powerhouse set to saddle up the star son of Pivotal as well as Cascadian and Best Of Days.
McDonald, who is aiming to win his first Doncaster Mile, will look to help Avilius end a run of 18 months since his last victory.

Avilius is a $13 chance with TAB.com.au for the Doncaster Mile alongside New Zealand-trained three-year-old Aegon.
Golden Slipper runner-up Anamoe is the clear $2.60 favourite to go one better in the Sires’ with McDonald taking over from Rachel King for his latest Group 1 assignment.
It could be a big day in the saddle for McDonald as the star hoop prepares to continue his association with Chris Waller’s enigmatic sprinter Nature Strip in the TJ Smith Stakes where he is a $4.50 equal favourite with Joe Pride’s Eduardo.
McDonald has also been booked for Sky Lab ($5) in the Australian Derby, giving him four strong chances across the Group 1s on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Robbie Dolan has been given one of the biggest chances of his career with the ride on the Annabel Neasham-trained Mo’unga in the Doncaster Mile.
The Rosehill Guineas winner is a $6 second favourite with TAB.com.au behind Mugatoo ($4.50), which will be ridden by Hugh Bowman.
