RANDWICK

Track: Heavy 8. Rail: +6m

RACE 1 BENCHMARK 72 (1300M)

Overview: Imposing Beau is a progressive horse for the Team Hawkes team and he comes out of a high rating Class 1 last start. He had no luck in town prior to that and looks as if he will enjoy 1300m. Seleque has a tricky draw to overcome but she sets up OK here. She beat Falcon last start who in turn finished second to subsequent Inglis Guineas winner Midland. There are other hopes but I’m focusing around these two.

BETTING ADVICE: Imposing Beau to win and something small on Seleque.

RACE 2 TAB HIGHWAY (1400M)

Overview: Open Highway. Monterey Zar is the deserved favourite and he was good when wide last start and is tracking nicely. The 1400m appears as if it will suit. I’ve always had time for Packers Bond and I reckon he just struggled on the firmer tracks last time in. He was outstanding fresh (clocking the best last 200m performance of the day) and he will only appreciate 1400m and a soft track here. Other chances to Chomeur, The Drover and Zoo Station.

BETTING ADVICE: Packers Bond at the odds.

RACE 3 STAYER’S CUP (3200M)

Overview: Intriguing race for the stayers. Kaapfever didn’t have the greatest deal of luck two back and then was good at Warwick Farm. He has to stay the trip but gets a whopping 9kg turnaround in the weights on Sweet Thomas for being beaten just over four lengths by that horse two back. Sweet Thomas is a proven weight carrier and a proven two miler. He has a great hope. Feel The Rush can bounce back, while Notabadharada isn’t hopeless either.

BETTING ADVICE: Leaning to Kaapfever from Sweet Thomas.

RACE 4 BENCHMARK 78 (1800M)

Overview: It’s hard to tip against Zing the way she is going but she has to be a little query at 1800m as well. She maps well though and gets another opportunity. La Grisa has claims but I think they’ll run in a more suitable race in Brisbane, while Necessary isn’t hopeless if she is able to reproduce the last start effort.

BETTING ADVICE: Zing on top.

RACE 5 BENCHMARK 72 (1600M)

Advice: Open race. Wairere Falls is on the back up here from last Saturday and he has been racing very consistently. He should be in the finish again. Knight improved sharply second-up and he should roll forward and give this a shake. He does have company on speed though. Sarodec also has each-way claims and the wetter the better for him.

BETTING ADVICE: Wairere Falls to win.

On her best form, Tricky Gal will be tough to beat in the Civic Stakes. Picture: Grant GuySource:The Daily Telegraph

RACE 6 CIVIC STAKES (1400M)

Overview: Very open race with chances to most of these. Tricky Gal was disappointing last start but her best would simply be too good for these. I can make a small case for Thorin at the odds. He was disappointing first-up but the blinkers go on here and he gets out to a more suitable trip and has form on soft ground. It wouldn’t surprise me to see any of the 10 runners win this though.

BETTING ADVICE: Very open. Thorin and Tricky Gal worth thought for quaddies.

RACE 7 BENCHMARK 88 HANDICAP (1800M)

Overview: Great House looks the horse on the up here and he gets in pretty light still. The 1800m will suit as well. Opacity recaptured his best form last start and Randwick wet tracks are what he loves. Gone Bye can improve sharply here and he was good fresh and then too bad to be true second-up. He could get out to silly odds here.

BETTING ADVICE: Great House to win.

RACE 8 BENCHMARK 78 (1400M)

Overview: Another pretty open race. I thought Ulysses did enough fresh and he can be much closer from the good draw here. I know the time out of that race was a bit soft but a lot of that was due to them crawling until the 400m mark. He has a good second-up record as well. Canasta is building nicely but he needs the rail to be fine by this time of the day as he is a horse that loves the rail. Blondeau needs luck from the draw but is capable and there are other chances too.

BETTING ADVICE: Leaning to Ulysses.

RACE 9 BENCHMARK 78 (1100M)

Overview: Destination was good last prep and his form around Wild Ruler and Prime Star reads very well for this. He has drawn awkwardly but comes back as a gelding here. Shadow Crush, Not Feint Hearted, Dunbrody Power, Hulk, Madam Legend and Cuban Royale are all capable but happy to be with Destination as the horse on the up.

BETTING ADVICE: Destination to win.
