Royal Ascot punter blows chance to win fortune after cashing out for under £500

A Royal Ascot punter blew the chance to win a fortune after they cashed out their bet early for less than £500.

Bailey Grant placed a seven-fold accumulator across Thursday and Friday's racing at Ascot, with his £1.05 each-way bet returning a total of £83,638.75 if all his selections won. After seeing his first three horses win on Thursday, Bailey tweeted his bet slip and wrote: “What should we do @AndyRobsonTips.”

He chose not to cash out just yet and let the bet run going into Friday, where he saw his fourth selection also win to raise his cash out value even higher.

With just three more horses left to run, Bailey tweeted "Oooo it's getting closer" before choosing to cash out his bet for £463.75.

Those remaining horses all went on to win, meaning Bailey missed out on a total return of over £83,500. He again tweeted his slip, this time writing: "Still can’t believe it, cashed out for £463.75 when it went on to run and win for £83,638.75! Anyway, good night Twitter."

Some Twitter users questioned his decision not to let the bet run to its conclusion, but Bailey responded by explaining: "Some of you on here, don't have the brains to think about it financially! Imagine if one of them got placed or came nowhere in the race? You all would be laughing or kicking ye selfs!"

Once the disappointment had died down, he added, via SportBible: "At the end of the days boys, I've just turned 21 had bets in the past especially at Cheltenham this year. One horse left to run either it falls or pulls up early on!"

"It paid off, maybe not the £83k but I've played the bookies at their own game and came away with just under £7k+ in total for only today alone!"

Royal Ascot came to a conclusion on Saturday after five thrilling days of racing at the famous racecourse in Berkshire. Although Bailey was not able to land a fortune off his bet, one punter claimed £300,000 off £5 on Friday after correctly predicting every winner.
