Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne have congratulated Mumbai Indians on their stunning Indian Premier League title triumph.
Mumbai established themselves as arguably the greatest T20 team in history after winning a fifth IPL title in eight years with an emphatic victory over Delhi Capitals in the final.
Not only did Mumbai clinch a record-extending fifth title, but they became only the second team after Chennai Super Kings to win back-to-back tournaments, while their captain Rohit Sharma is now the most decorated player in IPL history.
Tendulkar, who helped Mumbai win the IPL in 2011 and 2013, hailed the current team after their title win and described the franchise’s success as ‘complete domination’.
The cricket legend tweeted: ‘What a victory by the boys! Complete domination by Mumbai Indians.
‘Well done to the players and the support staff who have continued from where they left off last year.’
Australia hero Shane Warne, who was a mentor for IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, added: ‘Congrats to the BCCI, Sourav Ganguly and all the IPL staff and players on making this season another huge success!
‘A massive thanks to the players for the sacrifices they have made. Congrats to the Mumbai Indians on the victory and well done to the Delhi Capitals on a great season too!’
West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard, meanwhile, described Mumbai Indians as the ‘best T20 franchise’ after they lifted the trophy for a fifth time.
‘I think you have to say so,’ he said. ‘It’s a great feeling. I’ve been here 11 years and this is my fifth trophy.
‘No one sees the planning and training, it’s pressure playing for a franchise like this. The amount of trophies, the amount of work, the amount of players who go on to play for their countries, I think we are the best franchise.
‘Kudos to the owners and management and long may it continue.’
