The best horses have a history of breaking hearts and Matt Dunn conceded that his sprinter Snitz will be better this time in without taking on a big grey called Classique Legend.
While Dunn didn’t go as far as saying the Everest winner broke Snitz’s heart last preparation when beating him narrowly in the June Stakes, he is happy not to be racing him at Rosehill in the Starlight Stakes (1100m).
“The hard run against Classique Legend was really tough on him, as it would be for any horse,” Dunn said.
“That’s probably the reason he didn’t perform as well as we hoped he would in the Ramornie.”

Snitz has had 18 weeks off since his Ramornie Handicap ninth placing when sent out a $4.80 chance.
He’s won three from seven first-up and has got barrier two for Nash Rawiller who has given Dunn plenty of confidence in his horse ahead of Saturday’s assignment.
“He’s spelled really well. He’s come up great and Nash gave him a good wrap after his trial. He trialled him last preparation as well and he thinks he’s going as good, if not better,” Dunn said.
“He’s forward and is a naturally fit horse so he’s in good shape.”
Dunn has a set plan for him this summer and if he warrants it he’ll be running in the bigger races next autumn.
“He’ll stay in Sydney this time in for the three summer sprint races and that will be it for him this time in,” Dunn said.
“He’s not far away from a Group 1 race so we’re giving him a light preparation this time in and we’ll see what happens in the autumn.”

Earlier in the day Lady Banff can get things off to a positive start for Dunn, who has selected a Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m) for her today.
She too has spelled well and Dunn expects a better preparation from the three-year-old grey.
She also has barrier two to be ridden by James McDonald and is a $4.60 hope behind $3.20 favourite Plaquette.
“I think she can go better this time in. She won first-up last time then everything went pear-shaped for her,” Dunn said.
“Her ultimate goal this preparation is Magic Millions day so she’s not fully screwed down just yet and she’s got a fair bit of fitness left.”
