Sydney jockeys in lockdown ahead of Tatt’s Tiara meeting after shock decision from Queensland Health

Sydney-based jockeys in Brisbane ahead of the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara on Saturday have been left scrambling after a shock decision from Queensland Health to backdate a hotspot declaration for Greater Sydney.

The backdated declaration means anyone who has been in the local government areas of Waverley, Woollahra, Randwick and City of Sydney since June 11 and is currently in Queensland will need to go into lockdown.

Currently Josh Parr, Tommy Berry, Hugh Bowman, Kerrin McEvoy, Rachel King and James McDonald are in Brisbane after they made the trip north on Wednesday night to beat Thursday’s border closure.

All Sydney-based jockeys and trainers in Queensland for the final Group 1 of the season have completed negative Covid-19 tests since arriving in the Sunshine State.

Racing Queensland is currently seeking clarification from Queensland Health as to the ramifications of their decision which will have much broader consequences than racing with State of Origin set to be played in Brisbane on Sunday night.
