The England and Wales Cricket Board have given ‘conditional approval’ to the upcoming Ashes tour after talks with Cricket Australia and its Test players.
A number of England players and staff members had concerns over their families being allowed to travel and the ‘bubble’ arrangements amid Australia’s strict Covid-19 quarantine rules.
But the ECB say they have made ‘excellent progress in moving forward’ on the Ashes tour after weeks of negotiations with Cricket Australia.
The five-Test Ashes series is due to begin on December 8 and finish on January 18.
An ECB statement read: ‘Over recent weeks we have made excellent progress in moving forward on the England men’s Ashes tour.
‘To facilitate further progress and allow a squad to be selected, the ECB board has met today and given its approval for the tour to go ahead.
‘This decision is subject to several critical conditions being met before we travel. We look forward to the ongoing assistance from Cricket Australia in resolving these matters in the coming days.’
