Windsor racecourse slammed for rank food that "looks like dog chews"

A "disgraceful" breakfast spread that included bacon drenched in liquid and browned eggs put on by Windsor racecourse has been slammed by ex-jockey and current stable assistant Jemma Marshall.

Marshall who rode between 2001 and 2014, took to Twitter on the afternoon of Monday (May 2), to tear apart the food options that had been offered to her at the Berkshire racecourse.

Her post has got plenty of reaction on social media, bringing in both those who support and question her opinion of the grub as well as a swift response from the group operations director of course owners Arena Racing Company.

Ex-jockey Jemma Marshall wrote: "I started work at 5:45, I rode 5 horses, I jumped in the lorry, drove to @WindsorRaces sat down at 2:30 to eat for the 1st time that day and was met by this!

"I wonder how long it had been sat there?! #disgraceful #mustdobetter #wouldyoueatthis."

To which one social media user said: "That's insulting. How can they dish that up. Bet the owners don't see this."

With a second adding: "Disgusting ! Owners need to stand with stable staff."

And a third posting: "All greasy and the bacon looks like dog chews. This is not acceptable."

However, there were those who disagreed, with one writing: "I don't think this looks too bad."

And a second saying: "99% of the population have to feed themselves at work …Would be grateful for anything."

Mark Spincer, the group operations director for Arena Racing Company, who operates 16 racecourses and five greyhound stadia including Royal Windsor, has since responded.

After another Twitter user wrote: "Hi @MarkSpincerARC sorry to interject but do you not feel this is a little below the standard that the superb stable staff countrywide deserve?"

Spincer said: "100% not acceptable, we will be in touch with Jemma today."
